Svetlana Pasti is docent of journalism at Tampere University, Finland. She has worked as a researcher, consultant, and team leader in various projects of the Academy of Finland, the Finnish Ministry of Education, and the European Union in Russia, Central Europe, and the BRICS countries.
She authorizes two monographs, The Russian Journalist in the Context of Change: St. Petersburg Media (2004), and The Changing Profession of a Journalist in Russia (2007), and over 50 peer-reviewed book chapters and journal articles on various platforms. She is the author and co-editor with Jyotika Ramaprasad The BRICS journalist: Profession and practice in the age of digital media (Special Issue of African Journalism Studies, Routledge, 2015) and Contemporary BRICS Journalism (Routledge, 2018). Her most recent publication, co-authored with Andrej Školkay, is a chapter “Cross-Border Journalism in Eastern Europe and Russia” in Palgrave Handbook of Cross-Border Journalism (Springer, 2023) edited by L. Rothenberg, M. Löffelholz and D. Weaver.
Svetlana has a Ph. D in journalism from the University of Tampere since 2007. She received her master's degree in journalism from the Leningrad State University, Faculty of Journalism in 1982. From 1983 to 1996, she worked as a journalist and editor for the Murmansk State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company in Russia.
