The Fetisov Journalism Awards Annual 2024
The FJA annual publication is a collection of the winning stories and shortlisted entries in the four categories of the Fetisov Journalism Awards:
- Outstanding Investigative Reporting
- Outstanding Contribution to Peace
- Contribution to Civil Rights
- Excellence in Environmental Journalism
The publication includes the editor’s foreword, messages from the FJA Jury and Expert Council, and excerpts from acceptance speeches of the 2024 winners. These contributions reflect on the value of truth-based journalism and the courage it takes to speak out in a world increasingly hostile to press freedom.
Truth Matters: Journalism for a Better World – this was the theme of the sixth Fetisov Journalism Awards ceremony, held in April 2025 in Dubai. Against a backdrop of global conflict, media repression, and rising disinformation, this year’s event underscored the enduring power of fact-based journalism to defend justice, give voice to the voiceless, and illuminate hidden truths.
Over 400 entries from 89 countries were submitted in 2024, with 36 standout stories making the shortlist. These included seven cross-border investigations and 16 collaborative works. Each year, the expert jury faces the difficult task of selecting the winners, who share a prize pool of 520,000 CHF – the largest unrestricted journalism award in the world.
As Aidan White, Honorary Advisor to the Fetisov Journalism Awards and President of the Ethical Journalism Network, notes:
“The FJA winners provide examples of how a commitment to courageous reporting is found in all corners of the world. Media professionals may come from dramatically different backgrounds and different cultures, but they share a universal vision of journalism as a public good, and a progressive force for change.”
Founder Gleb Fetisov echoed this message in his address: “Your work is fire – a hot spark on the cold iron of lies. You are the keepers of the flame when the world is cloaked in darkness.”
The Fetisov Journalism Awards continue to celebrate integrity, bravery, and global collaboration in journalism – and to remind us that truth, no matter how fragile, still matters.
