The FJA annual publication is a collection of the winning stories and shortlisted entries in the four categories of the Fetisov Journalism Awards:
- Outstanding Investigative Reporting
- Outstanding Contribution to Peace
- Contribution to Civil Rights
- Excellence in Environmental Journalism
Despite the uncertainties and turbulence of modern times, journalism provides a beacon of hope for the future says the Fetisov Journalism Awards.
The book “Journalism Matters: Reporting for a better world” celebrates the winners of the 2025 Fetisov Journalism Awards, which were presented in Cyprus in April.
“The world is facing enormous challenges, but news media and courageous journalists are shining a light on how we can turn the tide,” said Aidan White, General Director of the Awards and Editor of the book.
“Journalists around the world are making a difference through their honest reporting, truth-telling and ethical communications.”
The book is a showcase of the winners and shortlisted entries for the 7th year of the awards which involved more than 400 entries, including stunning examples of reporting from the frontlines of war in Gaza and Sudan.
It also demonstrates how “fourth estate journalism” is alive and well with powerful examples of reporting that holds political and corporate power to account in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
The publication includes a detailed review of all the winners and short-listed entries and contains insights from the FJA Jury and experts. It also contains a powerful statement from the FJA Founder Gleb Fetisov on the importance of journalism and truthful reporting as a key to building peace.
The volume presents stories from a shortlist of 33 entries from 19 countries: Netherlands, France, Qatar, Indonesia, UK, USA, India, Finland, Mexico, Italy, Canada, German, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, China, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This year’s shortlist was selected in four categories and chosen after evaluation by the FJA Expert Council and the FJA.
“The book is, above all, a tribute to our winners,” said White. “We are all enriched by the quality of their work, and they all make a contribution to building a safer, gentler and more respectful world for all of us.”
