The closing date for the 8th annual edition of the Fetisov Journalism Awards is coming soon.
Already hundreds of applications from dozens of countries around the globe have been received.
Now organizers are urging journalists and editors to send their entries well before the 15 September deadline.
“Last year the final day rush was so great it almost crashed the system,” said Aidan White, FJA General Director. “We’re confident we can cope this time, but we advise entrants to avoid last-minute hitches.”
The FJA is the world’s richest global journalism prize and over the years it has attracted entries from almost 150 countries.
“Once again there are some powerful examples of heroic journalism in the mix,” said Aidan White. “It has been a year of big stories and courageous reporting, so we hope all editors and news media will ensure their ground-breaking stories will be submitted.”
Entries can be submitted for any of the four categories:
- Investigative Journalism
- Excellence in Environmental Journalism
- Outstanding Contribution to Peace
- Contribution to Civil Rights
The final selection of winners is made by an international jury and expert group comprising distinguished reporters, editors and media figures from all parts of the world.
The winners share a prize fund of 520,000 CHF and will be announced at a gala ceremony in Cyprus next year.
The FJA was created in 2019 and since then, the number of entries to the FJA has grown steadily. It has to date honoured more than 200 reporters and investigators from more than 100 countries.
“Their journalism is a force for democracy and justice and deserves to be rewarded,” said Aidan White. “Courageous journalism must be honoured and protected. That is why we seek it out, provide funding for it, and amplify it for others to appreciate.”
